A Day in the Life

By Anthony F. Prieto, Jr., CFP®

I consider myself to be a very fortunate person. I have a supportive family and friends. I have a job that allows me to meet, and more importantly help, great people who are in need on a daily basis. I was recently asked what is Synergy and what do you do. The answer seems simple to me – We help attorneys and the families they represent maximize and protect every dollar they recover in a legal settlement. We often times say we help families transition from litigation to life. For someone outside the industry that probably does not make much sense, but it should to lawyers handling personal injury matters. As an attorney you see the horrific things that can happen to families thru no fault of their own by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

How can we help? One way to answer that question is to show you what I did yesterday.

7:50 – Arrive at the Synergy Office

8:00 – Conference Call with the Settlement Planning team to review a new product offering – We pride ourselves in being cutting edge and keeping our attorneys and their clients up to date on every available option.

8:30 – Conference call with an elder law attorney and a disabled client to discuss the Settlement Solutions National Pooled Trust (SSNPT) cost structure. This trust helps protects clients who receive needs based benefits such as Medicaid and SSI.

10:00 – Video Conference with an attorney and his client on “Protecting Medicare’s Future Interest” (MSA) in a liability settlement

Noon – Pre-Mediation meeting – met with a professional guardian to discuss the needs of his client. He wanted to have a better idea of the funds needed to safeguard the award in the future. The case will mediate next week.

2:30 – Attend workers’ compensation mediation – attended a mediation with an attorney to help the family understand how their MSA would work after the settlement. We were able to provide funding options via a structured settlement and professional administration to help with the burden of managing the funds. The attorney handling the workers’ compensation case inquired about deferring taxation of his fees thru our attorney fee deferral products.

I am just one spoke in the wheel at Synergy. Everyone here has a calendar that is made up of helping attorneys like you and their clients every day. The Synergy team provides your clients with experience and the credentials you can trust.

We know our attendance at a mediation is extremely helpful to you and your clients. That is why we attend at our own expense. If we cannot help, we do not charge for our services. So whether you have a complex issue with government assistance preservation, Medicare compliance, settlement trusts, preservation of settlement monies thru structured settlements or tax deferral of your own fees; Synergy can help provide clarity and suggestions for the best course of action.

TESTIMONIALS

“Synergy is our guiding light for deferring our contingent legal fees and planning for retirement. The lawyers at Panter Panter & Sampedro, myself included, have been working with them for over ten years using different methods to defer comp and plan for retirement.”

"I don't think I've directly said "thank you" for helping us with Bridgett’s case. We sent the reduced payment to Medicaid and called Bridgett's mom to tell her approximately how much money was going to be left for Bridgett and she broke down over the telephone. Given only $25k of insurance and a $850k medical bill from the hospital she didn't think Bridgett would ever see a penny."
