Joanna Wynes is a settlement planner with Synergy Settlements, serving clients in the Mid-Atlantic states. As a comprehensive settlement planner, she provides invaluable assistance to attorneys and plaintiffs/claimants nationwide navigating the complicated issues that arise during settlements including structured settlements, government benefit preservation, special needs trusts, lien
resolution and Medicare Set-Asides.
Joanna has had the privilege of assisting victims of motor vehicle accidents, medical malpractice, wrongful birth, wrongful death, products liability, dog bites, and workers’ compensation with respect to their settlements. Attorneys can rely on Joanna to attend mediations, meet with clients, prepare personalized settlement plans and help clients understand their options.
By way of background, Joanna, a native Baltimorean, graduated magna cum laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law where she was in the top two percent of her class. Following graduation, Joanna represented victims of medical malpractice, defective products and motor vehicle accidents at several highly-regarded Philadelphia law firms, achieving seven- and eight-figure settlements and verdicts on behalf of her clients.
After returning to Baltimore, Joanna began her career in the settlement industry as a Medicare Set-Aside consultant, where she learned the nuances of the Medicare Secondary Payer Act and gained a further understanding of the implications faced by injured individuals with ongoing medical needs. Joanna later joined a national settlement planning firm working with a diverse array of single-event clients as well as victims of a large pharmaceutical mass tort.
Through her professional experience, as well as growing up with a disabled parent, Joanna has a well-developed understanding of the financial, medical and emotional needs of injured individuals and their families. For many clients, especially those who are the victims of a catastrophic injury, the money they receive as a result of a settlement needs to last as long as they live. Without the appropriate advice and guidance, these individuals are at risk of losing government benefits, making poor investments, being taken advantage of, or spending their settlement funds too quickly. Joanna prides herself on taking a compassionate, yet practical, approach to assisting clients in maximizing their settlements and ensuring financial security for the future.
